Welcome to Aikido Academy Los Angeles, a traditional Japanese martial arts dojo located in the heart of Los Angeles, California. We offer dynamic group classes for both adults and youth, creating a supportive environment for practitioners of all experience levels.

Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or a newcomer interested in exploring Aikido, we warmly invite you to observe or join our classes at any time throughout the year. Our dedicated instructors are here to guide you on your journey toward mastering Aikido.

FAQ

What are the criteria for joining your dojo?

We’re excited to meet you in person! Before joining, we’d like to discuss your goals and explore how our training can support them. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in an introductory class to get a firsthand experience of Aikido training and decide if it’s something you’d like to pursue.

Do the same criteria apply to youth classes?

Yes, the same criteria apply for youth classes. We welcome students aged 13 and up.

How often can I train when I join?

Adults: For the first three months, you'll be in our Intro Group, training twice a week. After that, you can attend any regular classes on the schedule.
Youth: Classes are held once or twice a week and are combined with the adult group, following the same schedule.

Do I have to attend every class after joining?

We encourage regular attendance for steady progress, but we understand life gets busy. We recommend sticking to the schedule to develop your skills consistently.

Do you teach weapons?

Yes, we do! In addition to unarmed techniques (aiki-tai jutsu), we offer training with the wooden staff (aiki-jo) and sword (aiki-ken). You can use our dojo’s practice weapons at first, and later we recommend getting your own. Note: Weapons training is not included in youth classes at the beginning.

Is there literature to complement my training?

Absolutely! We recommend"Explore Aikido" volumes 1, 2, 3 by Michael Jacyna, our dojo's chief instructor. It’s a great companion to your training and can be found in the Aikido Books section on our website.

How much is the membership fee?

Monthly membership starts at $140 for both adults and youth.

Visitors mat fee

Our dojo’s mat fee is $25 per class and applies to visiting Aikido practitioners from out of town. If you plan on visiting Los Angeles and dropping in to train with us, please let us know in advance.
