Testimonials  – What students, guests, and visitors say about our dojo:

“I did Karate briefly as a kid and was looking to get into martial arts again as an adult. I have been attending this dojo now for about a month, and the practice has certainly changed my life. I don’t know a lot about Aikido but the technicality of the approach to the teaching here is fantastic. This is not an easy thing to learn, and I have a long ways to go, but it’s been a pleasure learning the flow of the moves already. All the students are really nice and are very helpful, and the sensei is kind but also lets you know when you are doing something incorrectly. There is a focus on the art of the mastery of the moves, mainly on the technicality but also always an emphasis on executing everything with grace and centeredness. I feel a sense of power and centeredness that is soft yet bold that I haven’t obtained from any other physical or spiritual practice – mediation, yoga, etc.”

“Sensei Jacyna is one of the greats in the world wide Aikido community. His passion and commitment to the art of Aikido is truly inspiring. He’s not only a super talented role model but teaches the art with great patience and awareness. Sensei has created a giving and supportive environment where higher and lower grades train together. There’s a wonderful spirit of generosity at the dojo with just the right amount of etiquette. This allows those that want to – to progress rapidly… Aikido is a great workout without being a workout and is a whole body and mind experience. I highly recommend this dojo to men/women/children of any age.”

““I’ve been training Aikido for two years in Warsaw, Poland. I was in Los Angeles for official work for almost six weeks and trained at Aikido Academy Los Angeles, because I didn’t want to have such a long break in training.I highly recommend checking this place out. Everyone was incredibly welcoming. Thank you all and see you next time!”

“I was in LA for work for a few days and visited/trained at Aikido Academy Los Angeles. Everyone there was very nice and welcoming. They have a great style of Aikido and I appreciated their patience while walking me through their techniques. I will make it a point to come back to this dojo on future trips to LA.”

“Through Michael Jacyna Sensei’s guidance all practice has been safe – not easy, but informed – make classes a joy to participate and grow in my training. I am also happy to have worked with a wonderful female instructor in proper etiquette and techniques for women. Of the many dojos I have experienced since my first aikido classes in 2000 to the various Chinese-based martial arts I have practiced over the years, I truly rate Aikido Academy Los Angeles as providing high end instruction.”

“Highly recommend visiting this place. My colleague Michael Jacyna is a principal instructor. I worked with him on a martial arts/sword fighting movie a few years ago- He is accomplished not only as a martial artist but also a gifted fine artist- Aikido is a powerful and surprising art form.

“Michael Jacyna Sensei is very passionate about aikido!… Most notable in his teaching is how integrated everything is, especially weapons as the bokken and jo, into the classes.”

“I have been a student at the Aikido Academy for six months, and have enjoyed every class!  Sensei Michael is a great teacher – and his enthusiasm for Aikido comes through as he helps his students learn and develop their skills.  He is very good at helping new students feel at home from day one, and he takes an active interest in helping each student achieve their potential.”

“The instructor Michael Jacyna Sensei is patient, kind and very effective at communicating each lesson.  If you are afraid of trying a new class or skill because you imagine the teacher will be a drill sergeant or tyrant don’t worry about Mr. Jacyna.  He’s friendly, funny, knowledgeable and extremely passionate about teaching.”

“I encourage anyone to come and try a class – you’ll love it :)”
